Tom Walters

Senior pastor

Born 1951 he graduated from Latrobe High School in 1969. He worked in construction for several years running heavy equipment. Tom gave his life to Christ in 1971 and answered the call to ministry in 1976. He attended the Free Gospel Bible Institute, where he graduated in 1979. He served in a local independent ministry for several years before founding Word of Life ministries in 1986. He has served as senior pastor there since that time. Tom and his wife Debbie were married in 1973 and have 2 sons, Jonathan and Nathan. Both boys are married and have blessed Tom & Debbie with 3 beautiful grandchildren with more to come. Tom's interests, besides his Love for his Lord and family & church, includes street rods and motorcycles (especially Harleys) and his heart's desire is to see people grow in their love for Jesus and one another.

    Sheldon grew up in West Virginia and has been in ministry for 38 years. He has a Masters Degree from Geneva College and is presently working on his doctorate. He and his wife, Connie, have two children who are both married and are proud grandparents of a little boy.

    Chris grew up near Clarksburg, WV, where he met his wife Eve. After working for a Fortune 500 company for eighteen years he was led to leave the business world and enter the ministry. He is a graduate of Rhema Correspondence Bible School. He and Eve live near Greensburg with their two sons Levi and Ethan.

  • curt detar

    family life pastor

    Curt grew up locally and spent 2 years in the Marines, of which 13 months and 9 days was in Vietnam. Teaching Technology Ed at Clarion & Hempfield School District, Curt came to WOL in 1987 and became an Elder in 1988. He retired from teaching in 2002 and was ordained as the Family Life Pastor in 2007. Curt and his wife Paula have 2 sons, Brett and Jason.

    Elaine has been serving families at Word of Life since 1988. She attended the International School of Ministry and is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors. She is a life-long resident of Westmoreland County and she and her husband are proud parents and grandparents who enjoy country living and scenic drives.

  • nathan walters

    worship & student pastor

    Nathan grew up in Word of Life and has always been involved. He initially came on staff as a Sound Engineer after he attended the Recording Workshop in Ohio, and then transitioned into the full-time Worship Leader. He took on the position of Student Pastor in 2008 and is still the Worship Pastor for our Sunday morning services. Nathan and his wife, Ali, live in Latrobe with their son, Milo.
